SPARKLING WISHES

Located in the heart of Plaka, Athens’ historic district, this compact 32-square-metre store was transformed into a unique hybrid retail experience for Sparkling Wishes, a family brand specialising in handmade silver jewellery. The client’s brief called for a space that would function both as a jewellery and accessories concept store and a welcoming coffee shop, creating an inviting destination that blends shopping with social interaction.

The existing interior was a freshly refurbished blank canvas, featuring new floors, ceilings, and freshly painted walls. With a small footprint and high functionality demands, the design needed to optimise every square metre. Custom-designed furniture, display units, and hangers were crafted specifically to showcase Sparkling Wishes’ diverse product range, while maintaining an airy and elegant atmosphere in keeping with the brand’s pink and light aesthetic.

Initially considering placing the coffee station centrally, practical constraints of plumbing access and precious floor space led to its relocation near the front of the shop. This positioning facilitates easy takeaway service while allowing the retail area to feel open and inviting. Display counters cleverly double as storage, and wall-mounted systems maximise vertical display, including a standout custom metal tube hanger that can showcase entire outfits in a portable, flexible manner. Lighting interventions were minimal, with the existing setup enhanced by adjustable track spotlights strategically positioned to highlight the craftsmanship of the silver jewellery. The spatial layout encourages a natural circulation path around a central display table, drawing customers through the store in a manner reminiscent of retail mall flow, ensuring easy browsing across distinct product categories.

The resulting interior successfully balances functionality and atmosphere, inviting passers-by into a space that feels both contemporary and intimate, and elevates the tactile experience of jewellery shopping with the warm pause of a coffee break — an elegant fusion of retail and hospitality in the historic heart of Athens.

The colour palette focused on whites, light greys, beige tones, and natural wood elements, avoiding overly dominant pink hues to create a subtle and cosy backdrop for the silver jewellery pieces. A key design challenge was integrating a fully functional coffee station alongside a compact seating area and ample product display and storage — all without compromising circulation.
